A Canvas Tent Equals Comfort
Canvas tents cost more, but you’ll appreciate the difference
Australia is a big country, and absolutely ideal for camping. One of the great joys of living in Australia is getting out into the outback, and experiencing the wilderness. Camping is a big part of that, and the canvas tent is a big part of the Aussie camping experience.
With the advent of overseas, and in particular Asian, manufacturing tents are becoming cheaper. However there is also a general tendency towards lowering the quality of many of the cheap tents that you see on the market today.
It’s perfectly possible to buy a cheap nylon tent that will house a family for less than $200. But see how you feel about that cheap nylon tent after 2 days of rain and wind. Chances are if your family was using a quality canvas tent you’d still be dry and comfy.
Whilst there is no doubt that a quality canvas tent is more expensive than some of the cheap nylon substitutes, when the going gets rough the quality shines through, and you won’t regret having paid more for a quality canvas tent.
Of course when you are choosing a tent for your family there’s a range of considerations, and price is one of those considerations. Yes it’s true that for less than $200 you can buy a nylon tent that will do the job, in certain circumstances. If you plan to use it rarely, and if you use a nylon tent in good weather, namely when there is not too much wind and not a lot of rain than a nylon tent will do the job satisfactorily.

But if you want a tent that will last 10 or 15 years, will still be standing in strong winds and heavy rain and which will keep your family dry and well housed in the worst weather then a nylon tent, particularly a cheap nylon tent, won’t stack up.
This website is here to tell you all about canvas tents. We won’t be discussing nylon tents, we assume that if you’re reading this site you’ve made the decision to buy a quality tent that will cost a bit more, and are looking for a quality canvas tent.
Over time we will be reviewing some of the different tents available on the market as well as discussing the different styles of tents that you may find.
Because of course it’s not just the quality of the tent that you need to consider, you also need to spend some time thinking about what you will be using it for.
Will it be a touring tent that you need to put up in 5 minutes and then pack away quickly next morning or will you be erecting your tent for a 2 or 3 week stay for your annual summer holidays?
Whether it’s one or the other makes a huge difference in which particular canvas tent that you choose.
And we’ll be telling you more about the different types of canvas available, because like anything else there is higher quality and more expensive canvas and there is cheaper quality and dust less expensive canvas available.
